'Liar' by Harry

Everyone knew he was a liar.  Everyone knew but her.  He’d been lying to her for a year and had always found it easy but he knew that it couldn’t go on.

Now he needed to tell her the truth – before someone else did.  It would be better coming from him.  He just needed to find the courage, the right words and the right moment but it had to be today.

He rehearsed it in his mind as he walked, almost stepping in front of a car as he crossed the road.  The nearer he got the more nervous and distracted he became.

Up the steps, through the door, there she was.  She looked up – loving, trusting beautiful eyes but a trace of doubt in her nervous smile. Perhaps she’d already guessed his deception.

He’d been so determined, utterly resolved but when it came to it – he just couldn’t do it.  He’d lost his nerve, forgotten what he’d rehearsed and told her the same sorry, sad little lie.

“Hello my love . . . You look really well today.  Much, much better.  I’m sure you’ll be coming home anytime soon.”
